Edit This Page [ Edit This Page ]

The historical region of Silesia sits along the northeastern part of the country of the Czech Republic. It is bordered by the region of Moravia to the south, the country of Poland to the north, and the country of Slovakia to the southeast. The borders and national affiliation of the region of Silesia have been changed over time. In fact, the region of Silesia has been a part of three different countries throughout its history. The most recent is the country of the Czech Republic. Prior to this, the region of Silesia has been a part of the countries of Poland and Austria.

Because of this, the region of Silesia has pride itself for its rich cultural heritage. Much of the top tourist attractions in the region pay homage to the historical life of the locals of this multi-faceted region. One of the top tourist attractions in the region is the Museum of Mining. Located on the northern part of the capital city of Ostrava, the museum offers travelers a glimpse not just into the mining equipment and machinery but the museum also provides a hunter’s settlement which thrived during the ancient times within the region. Another tourist attraction in the region is the Silesian Ostrava Castle. Recognized as one of the most popular historical landmarks not just in the region but in the entire country of the Czech Republic, the castle was built during the 13th century. Over the years, the castle has been lovingly preserved by a variety of restoration projects.
