What to see in Aquitaine, things to do and tourist spots

Situated on the Southwestern part of France, Aquitaine is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the west, the Pyrenees on the east and the mountain range separating France from the country of Spain on the south. Aquitaine covers a total land area of 41,308 square kilometers and currently has a population of about 3.7 million souls.

Because Aquitaine is situated next to large bodies of saltwater, the area has been known for its beautiful coastlines. The most popular coastline is the Côte d'Argent, which is also considered as one of the most famous coasts in all of France. It is also the home of the Dune de Pilat, which is the largest sand dune one can find in all of Europe.

While the region of Aquitaine is a coastal region, grapes are considered to be the largest product coming out of this region. It is no wonder then that the region of Aquitaine considers wine making and distilling to be the primary industry here. In fact, according to the U. S. State Department, an astounding 7 million hectoliters of wine is produced in over here each year!

This does not mean that Aquitaine does not turn to the waters for fresh produce. It is also home to the Bassin d'Arcachon, a large fresh water lagoon which is known for oyster farming, a perfect accompaniment to try with the region’s finest wines. Aquitaine is also known for a number of food products France is known for such as fois gras and truffles.
