Brandenburg is one of the sixteen states of Germany. It sits in the eastern part of the country. It was also re-created upon the reunification of East and West Germany. The capital is Potsdam. Brandenburg surrounds Berlin but is not a part of Berlin. The federal state of Brandenburg is named after the town of Brandenburg an der Havel.

Brandenburg is surrounded by Poland to the east, Mecklenburg –Vorpommen to the north, the Free State of Saxony to the south and Saxony-Anhalt to the west. The two main rivers are the Oder River which is along the eastern border and the Elbe River which is a part of the western border.

Well preserved natural environments can be found in Brandenburg which is known for its great strides in natural protection policies. Most protected area’s have visitor’s centers allowing tourists to view the pride which Brandenburg has in protecting their natural environments.

A National Park and Biosphere Reserves are present within Brandenburg. Nature Parks are also available for the nature lovers.
