What to see in Saarland, things to do and tourist spots

Edit This Page [ Edit This Page ]

The region of Saarland is one of the sixteen federal states and the smallest of all the area states that comprise the country of Germany. The region shares its southern borders with the French region of Moselle, its western border with Luxembourg, and its northern and eastern borders with Rheinland-Pfalz. The region of Saarland was named after the Saar River which cuts through the entire region, giving the land picturesque landscapes filled with rolling hills and lush green forests.

Its close proximity to the country of France has greatly influenced the region of Saarland, giving it a rich cultural heritage that is very unique from the other German states. In fact, Saarland has long been considered as the German state with a French flavor. From cozy home-cooked favorites of the locals to the latest fashion trends sold in modern day shopping malls, travelers can get a feel of the vibrant and rich culture beating throughout the land. No wonder then that the region is now becoming a favorite tourist destination in Germany.

One of the top tourist destinations in the Saarland region is the Völklinger Hütte World Cultural Heritage Site. Located along the banks of the Saar River, this unique park provides travelers not just a glimpse on the different cultural landmarks all over Germany but also in other parts of the country as well. The uniqueness of the park and its homage to the rich culture found in each and every single country in the world has made this a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
