The state of Saxony-Anhalt is one of the sixteen federal states that comprise the country of Germany. With a population of almost 2.5 million people, the state of Saxony-Anhalt is the eight largest of the sixteen federal states. It is bordered by Bradenburg to the northeast, the states of Saxony and Thuringia to the south and Lower Saxony to the northwest.

Saxony-Anhalt prides itself for its rich cultural heritage so much so that the locals attribute their culture as one that is in its purest form. After all, the state had been the birth place of two of the greatest masters of classical music during the Baroque Period: George Frederic Handel and Georg Philipp Telemann.

The state played also an important role not just in the history of the country of Germany but the entire world especially since the state has been recognized as the cradle of the Reformation. Back in the year 1517 in the town of Wittenberg situated in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, Martin Luther published his theses condemning the Catholic Church for putting a price on indulgence bestowed among those practicing the Catholic faith. Today, the homes where Luther grew up and died are now museums paying homage to the leader of the Reformation as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Another UNESCO World Heritage Site frequented by travelers in the state of Saxony-Anhalt is the medieval town of Quedlinburg. Recognized as a prime example of how European towns looked like during the Medieval Period, travelers are taken back in time as they wander through the streets and marvel at the buildings with many of them built during the 14th century and are lovingly preserved to this day.
